Alpha Crucis Shiraz
Wine
Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis Shiraz leads the winery's premium Alpha Crucis range, named after the brightest star in the Southern Cross.
It is a made with handpicked fruit parcels from premium McLaren Vale vineyards. It often draws on the Higginbotham Vineyard in Clarendon and the Gateway Vineyard at the entrance to McLaren Vale.
The parcels spend around three days cold soaking to ensure full flavour and colour in the final wine. They are then sent to open fermenters, handled very carefully to maintain fruit integrity and structure.
After nearly two weeks, the wine is transferred to a combination of French oak puncheons and hogsheads, 40% new, to mature for 15 months.
Deep purple crimson, Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis Shiraz is a textured and complex wine with concentrated layers of dark fruit flavours and spice. The finish is long and smooth.
It is only released in years that satisfy the highest standards of quality. Cellaring potential is eight years.
